Abstract expressionism gets a bad rap bc it was revealed that the CIA promoted it in order to make the US into the new center for the global art world, but this gets misconstrued into it being somehow "counterrevolutionary art," which is a bit like saying all those Soviet chess masters who got a lot of funding and KGB hangers on were playing specifically communist chess
Something I heard once was that Rome was unusually successful during their period of expansion in part because if one legion got owned on the field they could send a new one, but most of the people they fought did not have that advantage. They could field one army and if that army got crushed, that was it. I don’t know how accurate that is, but in other areas, a similar dynamic exists. The bigger a corporation is, for instance, the more shitty decisions they can weather. An independently wealthy person can field flop business after flop business but most people cannot afford to roll the dice on one business.
